Hydro initiated construction of a 5,900-ton indirect extrusion press line in Cressona, Pennsylvania, on October 27. The US$53.5 million investment modernizes manufacturing capabilities by replacing 1950s equipment with Industry 4.0 technology, advanced automation, and enhanced energy efficiency. Operations are scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2028.
The expanded capacity targets growing demand in commercial transportation, automotive, and electrical markets for high-performance aluminum profiles.
Hydro has invested over US$150 million at the Cressona site over the past three years and plans more than US$800 million in US investments across the next five years.
However, the company expressed concerns that tariffs on specialized European equipment increase capital costs and create operational uncertainty.
